Ganga Chu

"Ganga Chu"

It is a natural canal that interlinks Lake Manasarovar and Lake Rakshas together. Some early ramblers, who had come across this place, had mentioned that both lakes were directly connected through this water channel (Ganga Chu). However, presently, if you observe the area, you will find it far away from the reality. There is a hillock in between two lakes that keeps them apart. The channel may have connected with two shores in the past and later on it was gradually disconnected because of the Geographical movement in the area. Tibetan plateau is the most unstable part on this earth. Every year, the Indian sub-continent keeps moving underneath the plateau, thus the exterior of the Plateau is becoming higher by and by. This can be, one of the reasons, why Ganga Chu is no more connected with two lake now.

If the water flows in the channel (though it doesn't seem possible), the year will be well & prosperous, this what the local Tibetans believe in. There is a tale about how the channel was created; once upon a time there were two golden fish they used to live in Lake Manasarovar. Because of some issues one day, they had a big fight; and the one which was overpowered by other fled to the Lake Rakshas by cutting the channel. This is how the channel was created.
